Phalanx Boss Fight
The Phalanx is the first boss in Demon’s Souls Remake. This is the first required boss in the game, and you can find it by opening the main door in the Boletarian Palace.
Phalanx is very slow, but it has a long attack range. Don’t get too close because its spears will tear you out. This boss can be intimidating for newcomers in the Souls genre games.
Some say this is the noob filter boss in this game, and it has caused many gamers to cringe, trash-talk, and sell their physical copy of the game a few days after the day 1 release of Demon’s Souls Remake.
There are several effective strategies to defeat Phalanx. Here are some highly recommended approaches:
Option 1: Throw as many firebombs as possible
Phalanx is weak versus fire. You can grab firebombs when you are exploring the Boletarian Palace. This will be an easy fight if you stocked up on firebombs before facing Phalanx!
Option 2: Wear Phalanx off by defeating the shields until it runs out.
Keep in mind that Phalanx does heal, but only sometimes. It is better to finish it by taking his armor piece by piece and not jumping ahead and attacking head-on. I use the R2 or strong attack because it pierces and effectively wears down Phalanx’s shields.
When you are prepared with your equipment and careful when approaching Phalanx, it will be easier for you to beat this boss. I was able to tear down all his shields, so I only took a few seconds to make Phalanx’s HP drop to zero and finally beat it!
For seasoned Souls players, this can be an easy win!
