Meet Gurranq, Elden Ring's Beast Clergyman! Find him in Caelid & discover this interesting NPC character in Elden Ring!

The Lands Between in Elden Ring is a vast place that holds many surprises, interesting lore, and activities. And one of them is meeting Gurranq, the beast clergyman. Now what does this guy do? Let us discuss this article.

Gurranq, the beast clergyman, is an NPC that you can find in the Bestial Sanctum, found in the Dragonbarrow area. He is seeking Deathroot and rewards those who give him this item. Upon your first encounter with Gurranq, he will give you an item called Beast Eye Quivers—this is an item used to locate the deathroot across the Lands Between.

How to find the Bestial Sanctum?

You can easily find this location in the early game. Go to the Third Church of Marika, which is located in the Mistwood or around the eastern portion of Limgrave. Once you arrive at the church, you travel north not far from the church. You will then see a secret portal called Sending Gate, and when you enter, you will be transferred to another location called Greyoll's Dragonbarrow.

When you arrive here, you will see a huge door in front and a statue of a huge monster called Black Blade Kindred. It is just standing there, but it will become hostile once you attack it.

Enter the door and you will find the Bestial Sanctum, where Gurranq is located. There's also a site of grace nearby so you can access this location anytime.

How many Deathroot items does Gurranq need?

There is a total of nine deathroot, and Gurranq will reward you an item every time you give him one.

The Deathroot is dropped when you beat a mini-boss called Tibia Mariner, which is scattered across the region. You can find more info by clicking on this article What does Beast Eye Quivers Mean in Elden Ring?

(Spoiler) Gurranq is Maliketh, the Black Blade!

Gurranq is neutral and not hostile when you meet him at the Bestial Sanctum. Maybe because he needs something from you, which is finding all the Deathroot. But (spoiler alert), in the late game, you will have a chance to fight him—and trust me, he is a formidable foe, especially in the second form. You will have a chance to fight him in the Crumbling Farum Azula. In the first match, you will fight him as Gurranq, but when you damage him to half, he will then transform into Maliketh, the Black Blade.

I find this boss fight very difficult because of its hard-to-predict attack patterns. In fact, he was the one who made me pause Elden Ring, hahaha! I think it's very difficult to fight him on my current build, but I will face him again in the future! 😄😆

Conclusion:

Gurranq is an interesting NPC in Elden Ring. He will be neutral at first, but later on he will prove to be a boss that is very difficult to beat. There are plenty of interesting things aside from Gurranq, so make sure to explore and enjoy Elden Ring.
