By playing Elden Ring, your character explores the vast landscape of the Lands Between. This open world game consists of so many dungeons and dark caves. A lantern item in Elden Ring is an item that can be equipped and attached to the waist of your player, so it lightens up the surroundings.
What’s the use of a lantern?
A lantern is used as a light source when exploring dark areas and dungeons. It is not a required item, but this is especially useful for dark places.
Lantern or Torch? Which one is better?
Torches are brighter than lanterns, but since torches are considered weapons, they need to be equipped in the user’s hand, which is supposed to be holding a shield or another weapon.
Since it is in your character’s hand, you can use the torch as a weapon. Although it does not do much damage compared to other main weapons.
Lanterns, on the other hand, illuminate less than torches, but the main advantage of using a lantern is that you can equip it on your character’s waist, so you can equip a shield or another weapon in one hand.
Where can I buy the lantern?
There are many merchant NPCs in the Lands Between, but you can only find the lantern among these two merchants:
- From the Isolated Merchant’s shack in the Weeping Peninsula at 1,800 runes
- From Nomadic merchant, near the Liurnia lake shore site of grace (Liurnia of the Lakes) at 1,800 runes

Where can I buy the torch?
- From Kale in the Church of Elleh for 200 runes
- From Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold. You need to give the Kales Bell Bearing first to unlock the torch
How do I put the lantern in the quick slots?
Open the main menu and go to the equipment menu. On the quick items (bottom item boxes), select any slot, and you will go to the list of inventory. Select the small, waist-worn lantern. You will notice that there is an icon on the top-left corner of the item; this means that the item is now added to the quick slots of your character.
How do I equip the lantern?
Make sure the lantern is equipped with quick slots. Press the down button until you find the lantern, then press Square button or the Use Item command, and it will be equipped in your character’s waist.
