Whenever we look at the game, the main character always leaves an impression. But let’s not forget that in some games, they have a supporting character that helps them in many ways, like overcoming obstacles, beating a boss, remote support, giving valuable information, and many more!

In this article, let’s talk about supporting characters in video games! Are you ready? Let's now reveal the list!

Aku Aku (Crash Bandicoot)

Aku aku is a witch doctor spirit that is inside a wooden mask. He is more than just floating around Crash. Aku aku supports the characters by providing extra life if Crash receives damage, falls on a cliff, gets splattered by a boulder, ball, etc. One of the great features is that Aku aku also provides temporary invulnerability to Crash so he can proceed and complete the level unharmed.

Aku aku can be found by breaking a box with his face. If I were Crash, I would feel a little annoyed because a floating wooden mask is always floating around me, but the perks Aku aku gives are very convenient!

Sam Drake (Uncharted 4)

There are many supporting characters in the Uncharted Series, but among them, Sam stands out among all of them. Sam is Nate’s brother and also a thief and treasure hunter. In the early part of the game, Uncharted 4. Nate thought Sam died during their prison break. After 15 years, they’re finally reunited, and Sam sought his brother’s help in finding Henry Avery’s treasure.

The plot of the story is amazing, and despite the lies that Sam told, he still saves Nate many times, and he remains a true brother.

Uncharted 4 is way ahead of time. It is one of the best games Naughty Dog ever made! This game has many epic and unforgettable scenes. One of them is the epic chase scene. Watch this and relive the freakin’ awesome moment in the video game history!

Cappy (Super Mario Odyssey)

If you played Super Mario Odyssey, you will discover this cap with unique possession powers! Cappy is a ghost-hat, and he can possess different creatures in the game, which unlocks unique powers. Without Cappy, Mario won’t be able to complete missions, overcome obstacles, and defeat the bosses.

Actually, Cappy is considered a major character in the game, but we decided to put her as a supporting character in this article.

In this video, you'll see all the capture transformations of Cappy. Look how great this supporting character is!

Silent (Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain)

There are plenty of iconic supporting characters in the series, that is why it is hard to decide which one I should feature. But among all of them, Silent proved to be the winner! Silent is the sexy sniper in Metal Gear Solid V. Her first appearance was in the prologue when the enemies infiltrated the hospital where Snake is recovering and she tried to assassinate him, but luckily, Snake was able to survive and escape the enemy’s clutches.

Silent’s next appearance was when she was in a sniping battle with Snake. She was defeated and she was about to be executed but Snake decided to take her to their mother base.

Silent is an epic sniper, and whoever is marked by Big Boss, she eliminates them. She is especially useful in infiltration missions that require stealth because regardless how far the enemy is, she will make sure that the target won’t be breathing anymore!

Yuna (Ghost of Tsushima)

Yuna is the female character in the glorious game, Ghost of Tsushima. Yuna is a peasant living with her brother Taka, who is a blacksmith. During the Mongol invasion, Yuna found the wounded Jin on the battlefield, and she tended to her wounds. Afterwards, she became a very loyal ally, and they’re supporting each other to drive away the Mongols that invaded Japan.

Yuna influenced Jin to fight from the shadows and bend his morals if they were to win against the savage enemies.

For us Filipino gamers, she’s really familiar and resembles a Filipino artist, isn’t she? 😆

Otacon via Metal Gear Mk. II (Metal Gear Solid 4 )

For MGS fans, I am sure you wouldn’t argue with this. In Metal Gear 4, Otacon is one of the most valuable allies Snake ever has. In the game, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Otacon provides remote support via a miniature version of Metal Gear which he calls Mk II. From weapons specialist, providing ammo, useful tips in the field, boss fights, and many more.

Snake and Otacon met during the first game, right after Snake saves Otacon from Cyborg Ninja.

Torgal (Final Fantasy XVI)

Torgal has been Clive's pet since childhood. Correction, he is not a dog but a frost wolf. Torgal was found in the snow field during one of Archduke Elwin’s expeditions in the Northern Territories.

Torgal is one of Clive's longest companions. This frost wolf is very useful because of his skills, like regen. This wolf also attacks and distracts enemies, which is very useful for boss fights. Torgal can also disrupt enemy attacks and allow Clive to fight efficiently by attacking and supporting him in the background.

Torgal resembles Snake's DD from the game Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. This dog also resembles Red XIII of Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth. I think it's just me, lol!

Ganke (Marvel’s Spider Man)

Let’s talk about being a friendly neighborhood spider that assists the citizens and helps the city fight against crime. Spider-Man’s responsibility is quite a huge one. And things just got easier because of his sidekick, Ganke, who is also a computer geek and helps him with the tips, research, and many more. While Ganke is not physically fighting enemies, he helps Peter and Miles in his own way. Ganke offers remote support, gives advice and useful information, and on top of that—a true friend!

Alfred Pennyworth (Batman Arkham Series)

Let’s switch to DC, Bruce Wayne’s tireless butler and most loyal servant, Alfred is also an invaluable partner.

Alfred manages the maintenance, research of new technologies and upgrades, and repairs of Batman’s gadgets and weapons.

Aside from those things, Alfred serves as a surrogate father to Bruce because he lost his parents early. Alfred treats him as his own son.

Antea Duarte (Banishers: Ghost of New Eden)

Let’s also include one of my personal favorite games, Banishers: Ghost of New Eden. Antea was Red’s significant other, and she died by the Nightmare’s hands but came back as a ghost and haunts or rather assists Red all throughout the story of the game. Antea and Red are banishers. Their role is to help people that are haunted by spirits and resolve any of their conflicts. These couple have the choice to either banish a ghost or send it to the void or ascend and give a peaceful travel to the other world.

Antea Duarte of Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

Antea is a very important playable character, and she has unique powers and skills. Antea also helps Red in traversing terrains impossible to a mortal. She also blasts boulders, enabling access to more places, and she can also switch with Red to get away from the enemy's clutches if Red is grabbed or trapped!

Becoming a ghost was a rather useful feat, isn’t it? Me? I’d rather be alive! 😄

Ellie (The Last of Us Part 1)

The Last of Us is one of the greatest games ever made, and in part one, Ellie is still young, but she proved to be a great support to Joel in their journey and battle against zombies and other people.

If you’re the enemy, you wouldn’t want to cross paths with these people, don’t you agree?

Sharing you my favorite episode in TLOU Part 1. It’s when Ellie was kidnapped while Joel is recovering. This is fun, lol

Reyn (Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition)

Reyn is Shulk’s best friend and is one of the controllable characters in the game, Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition. Reyn is a member of Colony 9’s Defence Force against their archenemy, the Mechon.

Reyn is a muscular type and serves as the shield and protector of their party. He uses a metal shield as a weapon. Reyn is a bit of a simple-minded guy but is a true friend that supports the party. Here's one funny clip of Reyn and the party! 😆

9S (Nier Automata)

9S is a male scanner or more of reconnaissance type model that was sent to Earth. He also served during the 14th Machine War. During the first playthrough, 9S is a supporting character because the main controllable character was 2B. However, the players can control 9S on Branches B and D. 9S also wields a sword as his primary weapon and he is a very agile warrior.

Personally, I enjoyed playing this game because of the epic scenes and beating gigantic bosses. It's a really must-play if you haven't tried this yet! Another good news is that the series is available on Netflix!

9S about to fight in Nier Automata

BT7274 (Titanfall 2)

BT-7274, or called BT, is a Vanguard-class Titan in the game Titanfall 2. He was originally linked to the deceased pilot, Captain Tai Lastimosa, of the Frontier Militia's Special Recon Squadron (SRS). During the campaign, Captain Tai Lastimosa was KIA, and BT was linked to a rifleman named Jack Cooper.

As the story unfolds, BT and Jack’s bond grew stronger, and they were able to greatly contribute to the war. BT was there to protect his pilot and help him in tougher battles and situations.

Spoiler alert: Eventually, BT sacrificed himself in order to destroy the Fold Weapon, but his AI function might survive.

I love replaying this great first-person shooter that enables me to play as an agile human soldier or a titan with lots of amazing weapons!

Haven’t played this one yet? You really should!

Atreus (God of War 2018)

Who doesn’t know this kid? Atreus is Kratos’ son and is a main character in the God of War series.

But let’s step back a little and talk about Atreus in the God of War 2018 where he is a kid and is under the mentorship of his father, Kratos. They embark on a journey to spread Faye’s, his deceased mother’s ashes in the highest peak in all the Nine Realms, and Atreus has been learning lots of things.

This kid’s main weapon is a bow and an arrow. During enemy encounters, he can shoot arrows that stuns or disrupts enemies’ attacks. His attacks may seem weak, but it disrupts the enemy’s attack patterns and Atreus’ are proven very helpful especially when they are facing multiple enemies. He can also summon spirit animals that aid them in battle.

Atreus’ role is vital to the story’s progression because his arrows can unlock new places and reveal hidden locations that contain valuable loot. He was also the key to making Baldur vulnerable and enabling Kratos to defeat him.

Here's one very interesting scene between Kratos and Atreus. Atreus learned something very important here
