Becoming a ninja was one of my childhood dreams! I wanted to learn special skills like throwing shurikens and caltrops, performing stunts like double jumping, walking on walls, disappearing entirely, and many more! The good thing is that video games have enabled these skills, at least through gaming.

I struggled to determine if a game was a samurai game or a ninja game, but I trimmed them by checking if the protagonist and main character were ninjas. I also limit one game per franchise to give way to other ninja games.

With that, we looked up the PlayStation store, and here are the nine best ninja games on PlayStation!

1. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was released on the PlayStation 3 in 2013 and is one of the great ninja games out there, with very impressive graphics and gameplay! You play as Raiden, are hired as a mercenary, and confront a private military company that plans to wage wars for profit.

I love how Raiden slashes and slices Metal Gears into pieces. The soundtrack is also great and a must-play. The first part of the story is also epic when Raiden is almost defeated by his enemy and his archnemesis Jetstream Sam. If you heard of this for the first time, go ahead! You will certainly have a great time playing this semi-classic game! Even if this game does not have online features, the story is great and engaging. Wait for the final boss; your skills will be tested because Senator Armstrong will punish you!

2. Ninja Gaiden Master Collection

The Ninja Gaiden Master Collection includes three games (Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Sigma 2, and Sigma 3 Razor’s Edge). It also includes a digital artbook and the game’s soundtrack. Team Ninja developed this and did a good job of remastering these games. It’s a good thing the original story has not changed, and only the graphics have undergone massive improvements.

You play as Ryu Hayabusa, hack and slash enemies, and relive these games on better quality and higher resolution. I recommend starting and finishing the first and second games before beginning the third game because the story is connected.

Before buying, please note that the original games on the PS3 are more difficult and punishing, and the Master Collection has reduced difficulty.

3. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Developed by From Software in 2019, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is an epic masterpiece. The game’s story is about a shinobi named Wolf, tasked with protecting his Lord Kuro. The game’s story occurs in Feudal Japan (during the Sengoku period). Enjoy his journey and how he faces and defeats the brutally challenging bosses in this game.

This game should be on your list if you are a fan of ninja games! Sekiro: Shadow’s Die Twice also received the 2019 Game of the Year award! I only request that this game be made as an open world. However, it’s okay. The big landscape of the game is also nice to explore, and the replayability of Sekiro is very high.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is the best game among the other From Software entries.

I will never forget the gitgud moments that I had! I almost gave up defeating Genichiro and the grueling 3 rounds of fighting Isshin the Sword Saint! Thankfully, I didn’t give up after more than hundreds and hundreds of failed attempts. This is the first game that I platinumed as well! 🙂

4. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty

Wo Long is another game developed by Team Ninja. The game was set in the fall of the Han Dynasty. If you’re looking for fast battles that test your reflexes, punishing yet greatly rewarding boss fights, and highly customizable characters, then you should try this game! Many gamers said it resembles the game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, so if you’ve played it, there will be a few adjustments.

Now it’s time to face and battle the memorable characters in the Han Dynasty like Wu Bu! Be prepared!

As of writing this article, new content and DLC are coming! Additional contents, new missions, and stories to uncover! By the way, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is also available on the PC game pass. If you are subscribed here, you can access hundreds of great titles.

5. Strider

Do you remember the great game Marvel vs. Capcom? If so, then you know Strider Hiryu! And now, in this game, you will experience his awesome skills and character because he is the main protagonist in the cool ninja game Strider!

Strider is a fast-paced, side-scrolling, hack-and-slash gameplay. Hiryu becomes stronger as you explore the world and defeat powerful bosses. This game is very satisfying to play because of the animations. Even though this is only available in offline play mode, you will still have a great time and experience playing Strider!

6. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is a great couch co-op game for friends and family. Bringing back old-school types of gaming like arcade and side-scrolling is very refreshing! Play your favorite Ninja Turtle and blast the foot soldiers as you finish the game!

This game has two game modes: Arcade mode and Story mode. The players have limited lives in the Arcade mode, and the game must be completed in one sitting. Imagine yourself finishing the game with only one token. That is challenging but satisfying! The Story mode lets you exchange points to improve your character’s lives and extra moves.

This game may be short, but the replayability is high. I want to thank Tribute Games, the developers behind this gem, for reviving this genre. I hope you will bring back more of this, please.

7. Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 4

The game I love the most is the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 because this game covers the story from the beginning up to the great Ninja War, which is the pinnacle of the great manga/anime Naruto. Many new playable characters here are not present in the previous Naruto games.

What I love about this game are the following:

  • Anime-style ninja battles
  • Epic jutsus and other ninja techniques
  • Cutscenes – this – you really should watch!
  • Playing this game makes me want to replay the hundreds of episodes from Naruto and Shippuden! Their special moves are memorable as well! You must give this one a try!

8. Mark of the Ninja: Remastered

Here’s another entry to the 2D, side-scrolling type of game! The Mark of the Ninja was first released in 2012 and is now remastered on PS4 and other current-gen consoles. This game reminds us that ninjas should be in the shadows. You must use your stealth skills to your advantage and beat the enemies as a shadow warrior.

When you start playing this game, you will feel like you’re watching the Batman animated series because of its graphics. Be sure to check this out! You’ll enjoy this game! Get them on the PlayStation store.

9. Aragami 2

Aragami 2 is a third-person stealth game where you play as a ninja assassin. When you play this game, you will feel like you are replaying the famous early ninja game Tenchu because of its similar gameplay. Some say this game lacks challenge, has many bugs, and has repetitive levels. However, these things are acceptable because I like the controls and the gameplay. Aragami 2 is one helluva action-packed adventure game that you should try!
