In today's modern gaming, capturing and sharing your epic gameplay moments is an essential part of the experience. Whether you want to showcase your skills, document a challenging level, or simply relive your favorite gaming moments, having the ability to transfer gameplay clips from your PlayStation to your phone without the hassle of USB cables is a great feature.

In this guide, we'll explore the best way to transfer your gameplay clips from PlayStation to your smart phone without the use of USB cables. This is through uploading via PlayStation cloud services and downloading via the official PlayStation app!

Are you ready? Let's jump right in and follow these simple steps!

What you need to transfer gameplay clips from PlayStation to Phone:

  • PlayStation 5
  • Strong Internet connection. Make sure that both devices must be connected to a wi-fi network for faster transfer speeds.
  • Your favorite game. I use a PS5, so there's a great list of compatible games
  • Mobile Device. Make sure that your mobile phone has sufficient storage.
  • PS App or PlayStation App. The same PSN account must be logged in on both console and mobile.

Step 1: Set Up Your Phone

Follow these steps to set up your mobile device.

Download the PS RemotePlay app

Make sure you download the official PlayStation app. If not yet, you can download it here. After you download the app, log in using your PlayStation account or create one. You can also download the PS remote app via the IOS App Store or Google Play Store.

Sign In to Your Console via the PlayStation App:

On the app, go to settings > Sign in on PS5

On your PS5 console, it will then display a QR code. You can scan it or choose the setting Enter Code Manually on your smartphone

And that's it! You've linked your console to the PS Remote app.

Linking Your Consoles to your PS App:

On the PS App, go to Settings > Link Console to app. Select the console you wish to capture videos from.

Now, you're all set!

Step 2: Capture Your Gameplay

Now that sharing is enabled, it's time to capture your gameplay. Play your favorite game, and when you encounter a moment you want to share, press the SHARE button on your DualSense controller to capture a screenshot or video clip then select start recording. You will notice the little red dot on the top center portion of the screen.

Once done, press the SHARE button again and press the stop recording to end the recording. The game clip will be saved in your console's Media Library.

Step 3: Upload the gameplay clip to the PlayStation App

On your console, go to Media Library and select the video clip you wish to be transferred. If you just want to upload directly, you can press the OPTIONS button in the DualSense controller, and it will display the options available. Select "Upload to PlayStation App," and the upload process will begin.

Step 4: Access Cloud Storage on Your Phone

On your mobile phone, open the Remote Play app, navigate to the 'Game Library' section, and select the 'Captures' tab, where you can access your uploaded gameplay clips in the cloud storage.

Step 5: Download Gameplay Clips to Your Phone

Locate the specific gameplay clip you want to transfer to your phone and select the download button. This will save the clip directly to your phone's storage, making it easily accessible for sharing on social media platforms.

From there, you can do whatever you wish with the gameplay video. You can share clips with via group chat your gaming friends via the PlayStation app or social media accounts, make edits, upload them on your YouTube account, and much more!

Where to find the downloaded game recordings?

  • On Android phones, you can find it in the Media Gallery
  • On IOS / iPhones, you can find it by clicking the Photos app and then going to the Videos under the Media Types section

And that's how it's done! That's a pretty easy and simple process, right?

There are different methods to capture game clips. However, this is the simplest method if you want the gameplay videos to be transferred to your phone. I am using a capture card because I wanted to have a dedicated device for capturing. I use Avermedia GC513 or Live Gamer Portable 2 Plus because it has a feature that can capture and store game videos in MicroSD storage directly and has a USB transfer method.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Should my console and phone be connected to the same network for this to work?

No. It doesn't need to be on the same network. Since the gameplay clip is stored in the SIE's cloud storage services, I can access these via the official PlayStation app even if I am connected to a different network or I am using my mobile data.

I entered a blocked scene. Can I record those using the PlayStations record feature?

No, you cannot, but if you are using a capture card, you will be able to record everything that is happening in your console.

Can I delete the video clips on the mobile app?

Unfortunately, no. You can only delete the gameplay clips on the console. Once you delete the gameplay clip, it will be deleted in the cloud and will reflect on the mobile app after 14 days.

Will I be able to upload gameplay clips even if I do not have a PlayStation Plus Subscription?

Yes! I do not have a PlayStation Plus subscription, but I can upload and download my gameplay clips without any issues.

Is there a limit on the size of the clip that I can upload?

Yes, there is. The video clip's resolution should be 1920x1080, and up to 3 minutes only can be uploaded. Saved video clips in a higher resolution and longer will not be uploaded.

Conclusion:

By following these steps, you can effortlessly transfer gameplay video clips from your PlayStation to your phone without the need for a USB cable or USB drive. This wireless method not only adds convenience to the sharing process but also allows you to share your gaming triumphs with friends and followers in real time.

I capture my game recordings especially the boss fights for the sole purpose of nostalgia. I wanted to show my kids and their grandchildren that I once beat those difficult bosses and show them how great a gamer their grandpa was!
